Multiple factors contribute to providing lifesaving health care for all. One that often gets overlooked is the technical and clinical training needed to ensure that equipment remains functional and effective in the long term. That’s why here at Diamedica, we pride ourselves on the extensive training we offer to the primary hospital staff. Recognising the varying levels of skills and experience, we work closely with each hospital to tailor our training to fit needs and those of its staff. Here’s an insight into recent training we led at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi.

This educational programme was arranged in partnership with The Kenya Paediatric Association. Diamedica provided a day of certified training at Kenyatta National Hospital, the oldest and largest hospital in the country which also serves as the only medical teaching hospital in Nairobi. Attended by 30 enthusiastic participants from Kenyatta National Hospital and Pumwani Maternity Hospital including paediatricians and nursing staff. This hands-on practical event focused solely on CPAP therapy and product maintenance. The training, led by Diamedica’s Head of engineering, Jon Meek, taught staff how to successfully and safely use CPAP through a series of hands on demonstrations, presentation and questions.

The participants were impressed with how simple the machine is to use with the clear oxygen/air mixing chart, allowing for easy setting of flow rates.

Thank you for the great time we had during the training last week. The department is still excited about it. We spoke with the in charge of the New-born unit agreed to train all her 60 staff on CPAP.

Following the event Diamedica donated a CPAP machine to Kenyatta National Hospital to allow staff to equip new users with the skills and knowledge they need to provide safe controllable bubble CPAP. The Baby CPAP machine will also enable existing users to refresh their techniques and knowledge.
