Originally initiated by Diamedica, key partners in Safe Anaesthesia for Somaliland, or the SANSOM project, included the Edna Adan Teaching Hospital, Clinical Professor Mark Newton from Kijabe Hospital in Kenya, The DAK Foundation and Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide.

SANSOM was a three day conference – the culmination of two years of training nurse anaesthetists by Dr Newton and his team. This was followed by a road trip to eight different hospitals across the country delivering medical kits, which included Diamedica’s DPA02 portable anaesthesia machine and oxygen concentrators.

The full story of SANSOM is in April's edition of the AAGBI’s publication, Anaesthesia News.
