Draw-over Anaesthetic Equipment Checklist

News

July 31st, 2018

An eagerly awaited checklist for the safe use of draw-over anaesthesia equipment in any situation is soon to be published by the Association of Anaesthetists in Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI), according to an article in the July issue of Anaesthesia News.

The article, authored by the co-chairs of the AAGBI draw-over working party, Rachel Collis and Surg Cdr Dan Connor RN, makes specific reference to the Diamedica Portable Anaesthesia (DPA02) system. The DPA02  is CE certified by an internationally recognised notified body and is now included by the military on the Defence Anaesthesia Simulation Course.

Draw-over over anaesthesia equipment is used extensively in low and middle income countries, as well by the military in front line emergency situations. The crucial advantage of draw-over equipment in such situations is that it does not rely upon electricity or high pressure oxygen and air, unlike plenum or positive pressure vaporisers.

Diamedica’s entire range of anaesthesia machines are CE marked and function in draw-over mode, however they can also be used in continuous flow if resources allow.
